Software

  1. Software downloads - Links to several large software download archives

  2. Good Software - Links to homesites of some good Shareware/Freeware programs

    • Browsers - One of which you are probably viewing this page with right now. Below there are some alternatives.

      • Internet Explorer - Microsoft's internet browser, one of the 2 most popular browsers at the moment.

      • Netscape Navigator - Netscape's internet browser, one of the 2 most popular browsers at the moment. I like the interface on this one a bit better.

      • Opera - A small time browser trying to break into the competition with IE and Netscape.

    • Download Programs - Programs that allow you to continue your download if it has been interupted. These buggers are very handy if you ever try to download some large items like MP3s and programs.

      • GetRight - Nice software download program, costs money to register after the trial period, but is worth it.

      • GoZilla! - Haven't tried it out, but have heard it is a very good one, and it is free.

    • Electronics Simulators - Programs that simulate electronic circuits

      • CircuitMaker - Not anywhere near as user friendly as Electronics Workbench, but literally 10 times the power.

      • Electronics Workbench (MicroSim) - Much easier to use than CircuitMaker, but doesn't have quite as many features.
        NOTE: Has been renamed MicroSim.

    • FTP Programs - Programs used mostly for uploading webpages up to websites

      • CuteFTP - Most user friendly FTP program around. Very easy, very powerful, but is shareware.

      • WS-FTP - Pretty easy and powerful, also it is free.

    • Graphics - Programs used for graphics manipulation.

    • Instant Messengers - Programs used instant private conversations/chats betweem users.
WARNING: Instant messaging programs can be a large security risk to use. They can act as a gaping hole for hackers to walk right in. So I don't recomend using one of these at some place where security is critical.

      • ICQ - The most popular instant messaging program. It is very easy and is loaded with features.

      • mIRC - A popular program for IRC style chating. I don't recomend this program for new or light computer users, try reading up on IRC before deciding weather to mess with this program or any other IRC program.

    • Music Related Programs - Programs that have to do with music.

      • Napster - A MP3 download Program that has been causing a storm with its ease of finding MP3s.

      • Winamp - The best program for listening to MP3s and other music formats.

    • Text Editors - Programs that do the same thing as Windows Notepad, but much better.

      • Arachnophilia - Pretty good text editor and IDE (Integrated Development Environment), if I hadn't found EditPad first it would probably be the one I use now. It is pretty simple, and has lots of great features.

      • EditPad - A great replacement for NotePad. This is an extremely simple editor that adds a few much needed features that Microsoft neglected to add to Notepad. This is what I am currently using for editing HTML pages.
